TUMAMU, Unity is Power
TUMAMU is an alliance of three VICOBA groups that joined together for the purposes of bringing significant economic growth in catalyzing developmental initiatives more effectively and efficiently. The group is comprised of 90 members in total and 56 of them are PLHIVs and the rest 34 are members whose status is unknown. The groups that form the alliance are Tupendane, Maendeleo and Muungano hence the name “TUMAMU” which stands for Tupendane, Maendeleo and Muungano. The office is located at Kijungu ward in Kiteto District.
Basically TUMAMU come together only on matters of alliance but when it comes to VICOBA issues these groups work and operate separately under their own rules, regulations and guidelines.
Before forming the alliance, group members in their groups could only buy shares on weekly basis, get loans and run their small businesses, and had no group projects that could bind them together.
But after forming the alliance, things have changed, the group has become stronger in the community and it has become more acceptable. Through their alliance the group has managed to lobby the Village government for a plot to build a kindergarten classroom and a hall for renting
Already, it has been given the plot by the village council, and the group members have made 15000 bricks with their own hands, burnt and have collected stones at the site for foundation. Also, Kiteto development department have helped them with the Building plan.
